The National Law Journal has named two attorneys to its 2022 Elite Trial Lawyers “Rising Stars of the Plaintiffs Bar.” The editors selected attorneys who “have demonstrated repeated success in cutting-edge work on behalf of plaintiffs over the last 18 months.”
- Jan E. Messerschmidt, Associate, Securities Litigation & Investor Protection. Mr. Messerschmidt is the lead associate in several precedential securities class actions, two of which are rare actions against Big-4 auditing firms for their failure to exercise gatekeeper obligations, including Lewis Cosby v. KPMG, LLP (E.D. Tenn.), which received preliminarily court approval of a $35 million settlement in March 2022, and IBEW Local 98 Pension Fund v. Deloitte (D.S.C.). Finally, Jan played a key role in In re GreenSky Securities Litigation (S.D.N.Y.), which received final court approval of a $27.5 million settlement in October 2021.
- Daniel H. Silverman, Partner, Antitrust. Mr. Silverman is highly regarded by the legal industry, economists, and academics alike for his deep engagement with economic experts and for successfully shepherding cases through class certification. Mr. Silverman plays a leadership role in a number of cases, including In re Broiler Chicken Antitrust Litigation (N.D. Ill.), which in December 2021, received final court approval of more than $181 million in settlements, as well as in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Antitrust Litigation (D. Nev.), in which he led the direct and cross examination of two economic experts at a seven-day evidentiary hearing, resulting in the judge stating he would likely grant class certification.
